Apple cider vinegar benefits for men: facts vs online claims
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is promoted online for almost everything, including male performance. Here is an honest look at apple cider vinegar benefits for men.
In short: Small studies suggest apple cider vinegar taken with meals may modestly lower blood sugar spikes and help with fullness. Better blood sugar control supports blood vessels and erections over time. There is no evidence that ACV directly improves erections, libido or size. Undiluted vinegar can damage teeth and the throat.
What is apple cider vinegar?
ACV is made by fermenting apple juice. Its main active compound is acetic acid. Unfiltered versions contain “the mother”, a cloudy mix of bacteria and yeast.
What research shows
Blood sugar
Several small studies found that vinegar taken with a carbohydrate-rich meal lowered the blood sugar rise afterwards. This matters because high blood sugar damages nerves and blood vessels. See sugar and erectile dysfunction.
Weight
A few small studies suggest vinegar may help with fullness and slight weight loss. Effects are modest.
Cholesterol
Evidence is limited and mixed.
What ACV does not do
- There is no evidence that it improves erections directly.
- It does not increase penis size or testosterone.
- It does not “detox” the body.
Claims to the contrary are not supported by research.
How to use ACV safely
- Dilute 1 to 2 tablespoons in a large glass of water.
- Take it with a meal rather than on an empty stomach.
- Drink through a straw and rinse your mouth with water afterwards to protect tooth enamel.
- Never drink it undiluted.
Who should be careful?
- Men with reflux, stomach ulcers or gastroparesis.
- Men on insulin, diabetes medicines or diuretics, as ACV may affect blood sugar and potassium.
- Men with kidney disease.
Better-supported options
For blood sugar and erections, the strongest evidence is for exercise, weight loss, fibre-rich foods and less sugar. See exercises for erectile dysfunction and home remedies for erectile dysfunction. A naturopath can help you choose natural remedies that suit your health.

Private self-check: 5 quick questions
Answer these honestly before you try anything new or book. They help you describe what is happening and get more from your first consultation.
- How often can you get and keep an erection firm enough for sex: almost always, most of the time, sometimes, or rarely?
- Do you still notice morning or night-time erections?
- Have stress, poor sleep, alcohol, smoking or long hours increased recently?
- Do you take medicine for blood pressure, the heart, diabetes or mood?
- Has your interest in sex dropped noticeably over the past year?
If you answered “sometimes” or “rarely” to the first question, a consultation is a sensible next step. Morning erections that still happen are often a reassuring sign that lifestyle, stress or confidence are playing a part, which natural support can address well. A yes to question four means any remedy needs checking for interactions first.
