The P-Shot (Priapus Shot): what it is, what the evidence says, and natural alternatives

The P-Shot is widely advertised as a quick fix for weaker erections. Before you pay for it, it helps to know how it works, what research actually shows, and which natural, non-surgical options may suit you better.

In short: The P-Shot injects platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from your own blood into the penis. Early studies show mixed results, and major urology guidelines still regard PRP for erectile dysfunction as experimental. Men’s Health Clinics does not offer the P-Shot; our naturopaths focus on natural support for circulation, stress and confidence.

What is the P-Shot (Priapus Shot)?

The P-Shot, also marketed as the Priapus Shot, is a brand name for injecting platelet-rich plasma (PRP) into the penis. A small amount of the man’s own blood is drawn, spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and the plasma is then injected into the shaft of the penis, usually after a numbing cream.

The idea is that growth factors in platelets may support blood-vessel and tissue repair. It is promoted for erectile dysfunction, Peyronie’s disease (a curve caused by scar tissue), sensitivity and size. Because it uses your own blood, it is often advertised as “natural”, but it is still an injection procedure that needs a trained, registered practitioner.

Does the P-Shot work? What the evidence says

Research on PRP for erectile dysfunction is still at an early stage. A small number of trials have reported improvements in erection scores for some men, while others found little difference compared with a placebo injection. Studies are small, use different preparation methods and follow men for a short time, so results are hard to compare.

Major urology guidelines currently describe PRP for erectile dysfunction as experimental, and recommend it only within properly run clinical trials. There is no reliable evidence that the P-Shot increases penis size. If you are considering it, ask the provider what results they can show, what the full cost is, and how many sessions they expect.

P-Shot vs other injection treatments

The P-Shot is different from intracavernosal injections such as Trimix, which are prescription medicines that cause an erection within minutes and are used just before sex. You can read more in our guides to injection for erectile dysfunction and Trimix. Shockwave therapy is another option men often compare; see our shockwave therapy guide.

Possible risks and side effects of the P-Shot

  • Pain, bruising or swelling at the injection site
  • Infection if sterile technique is not followed
  • Bleeding, especially in men on blood thinners
  • Temporary changes in sensation
  • Cost without a clear benefit, as several sessions are often sold as a package

Men with bleeding disorders, active infection, low platelet counts or certain cancers are usually advised not to have PRP. Always tell the provider about every medicine and supplement you take.

Does Men’s Health Clinics offer the P-Shot?

No. Our practice in Sandton is a natural, non-surgical naturopathic practice, so we do not offer the P-Shot, PRP, injections or prescription medicines. What we do offer is a private consultation that looks at why your erections have changed, and a personalised natural plan to support circulation, energy, stress and confidence.

If you want the P-Shot or another medical procedure, we will tell you honestly and refer you to an appropriately registered medical professional. Many men also choose to start with natural support first, because lifestyle and circulation factors often play a large part.

Natural alternatives to the P-Shot for stronger erections

Support healthy blood flow

Erections depend on good circulation. Regular movement, a heart-friendly diet, less alcohol and stopping smoking all support blood flow. Our guide to natural ways to improve erectile strength covers the daily habits that help most.

Address stress, sleep and confidence

Performance worry, poor sleep and long working hours can weaken erections even in healthy men. A naturopath can help you build a realistic routine and talk through what is going on, privately and without judgement.

Personalised herbal support

After reviewing your health history and current medicines, your naturopath may recommend herbal remedies to support energy, libido and circulation, with costs confirmed upfront. Learn more on our erectile dysfunction support and weak erection pages.

Private self-check: 5 quick questions

Answer these honestly before you book. They help you describe what is happening and get more from your first consultation.

  1. How often can you get and keep an erection firm enough for sex: almost always, most of the time, sometimes, or rarely?
  2. Do you often ejaculate sooner than you or your partner would like?
  3. Has your interest in sex dropped noticeably over the past year?
  4. Have stress, poor sleep, alcohol, smoking or long hours increased recently?
  5. Do you still notice morning or night-time erections?

If you answered “sometimes” or “rarely” to the first question, or “yes” to questions two to four, a consultation is a sensible next step. Morning erections that still happen are often a reassuring sign that lifestyle, stress or confidence are playing a part, which natural support can address well.

What happens at your first consultation

  1. Walk in or book online, call +27 10 205 9855 or WhatsApp +27 81 823 1313. In Gauteng, walk in at 199 Vanessa Street, Buccleuch, Sandton, where parking is available. Outside Gauteng, choose a confidential phone or video consultation. Enquiries are answered 24/7.
  2. Talk privately with a naturopath about your symptoms, health history, lifestyle and goals.
  3. Receive a personalised natural plan, with any remedy costs confirmed upfront.
  4. Follow up in person or remotely so your progress is reviewed and your plan adjusted.

Your health and safety

Our naturopaths use natural remedies and lifestyle support, and always check your health history and current medicines first. Erection changes can sometimes be an early sign of heart, blood sugar or circulation concerns, so if anything needs medical attention we tell you honestly and refer you to an appropriately registered medical professional. Avoid unregistered “enhancement” products sold online or at markets, as SAHPRA has warned that some contain hidden ingredients.

Seek urgent medical care for chest pain, an erection lasting more than four hours, sudden weakness or other sudden symptoms.

Consultation price

A consultation is R2,500, in person or remote, and your naturopath confirms any further costs before you go ahead. See our men’s clinic prices for details.
